Top beauty finds of 2014

I thought I would round off 2014 with my top beauty finds – and trust me, narrowing down the endless rounds of new beauty bits from the last year was not an easy task!

But I’m very happy with what I’m finished with, so here we go!

I’ve got to give this a mention, because it’s been my staple face wash all year round – it’s the Simple Moisturising Facial Wash. I just can’t find any reason to replace this gem, because nothing quite compares to it! I use it every night to remove makeup and every morning as a refresh, and it leaves my skin feeling really clean but not at all stripped!

It would be suitable for all skin types, to do give it a try if you’re in the market for an excellent and affordable cleanser – that can double up as a makeup remover (it’s so gentle I even use it on my eyes – it works wonders at loosening mascara!).

I’m sorry to keep on talking about this, but honestly, it is the best hair serum HANDS DOWN. I discovered this way back in about June, when I first started this blog, and I raved about it then and still am now.

I run it through the ends of my hair once I’ve washed it (wet or dry) and it gives it a gorgeous shine and a silky smooth texture which I love – especially as I’ve dyed the ends of my hair recently so they’re not in the best condition. It may be pricey, but a little goes a very long way and it’s a definite repurchase for me!

I’ve also reviewed it here if you want to know more!

Now onto a couple of makeup bits and bobs – firstly a fairly recent discovery; Rimmel’s Wake Me Up concealer. I was in need of a more moisturising option for under my eyes, and this was exactly that! It never looks cakey and covers those dark circles (which, by the way, never get easier to shift as winter goes on!).

I just find the colour match to be perfect and that it also blends really well, so I’d 100% recommend it, particularly if you suffer with skin on the dryer side!

Next is the MUA Undressed Palette, which I have spoken about countless amounts of times and I am still in love. Even though it’s not my everyday eye staple anymore, it was for a pretty hefty chunk of the year and I do still reach for it when I’m in a rush, because the colours are really neutral and blendable. My favourite shade was always shade 2 – that shimmery pink-champagne was my perfect colour!

To be fair, not all of the shades are fantastic (particularly the matte ones), but for a measly £4 you can’t really complain too much!

I’ve given a really detailed review on this here, with swatches too!

Another obvious favourite from 2014 for me is the Maybelline 24hr Colour Tattoo in Pink Gold – something which I don’t actually talk that much about! I don’t know why this is though, because I’m halfway through it.

Because it’s a cream formulae it’s just so easy to smudge-and-blend, and you’re done. Bit of mascara, and it’s a effortless yet very pretty eye makeup look!

real techniques buffing brush

And finally (thanks for sticking with me!) is the Real Techniques Buffing Brush – what a CLASSIC! I have used this brush every single day since about March this year, and not looked back since – when I use this the coverage is amazing but very natural, the finish doesn’t look cakey at all and it works with lots of different types of foundations too.

And, as with all Real Techniques brushes – super soft and really easy to clean (plus I love the vibrant colour of the ferrule!).

So those were my top products of 2014!

Let me know your top finds of the year in the comments!

      1. It does! Although I did like the fact that Real Techniques stayed as a more affordable price point; I hope they don’t neglect the original line!

  1. I love the rimmel wake me up concealer! I use it everyday! I love the look of the maybelline eyeshadow I have the gold one but this one looks a lovely colour! I might have to try it 🙂 xxx

    1. It’s my holy grail concealer – it just never looks cakey under the eyes but still gives great coverage! And I would highly recommend the eyeshadow, it layers amazingly but also looks lovely alone x
