The Highbeam Hype

Hi lovelies! Happy Valentine’s Day!

I was having a dig through my makeup stash a few days ago now that I’ve got it all organised, and I came across my little Highbeam from Benefit!

I’ve been using it ever since I discovered it again, and I guess I’ve rekindled my love for the product. I’m going to be reviewing this for you today!

(if you’re not interested in a very detailed review, just skip to the bottom of the post where I round up everything I mention)

So, let’s get going.

I’ll start with the packaging – obviously mine is a mini-size, but the full size packaging is pretty much identical. I think the only difference is that the larger one has a white lid? Correct me if I’m wrong!

Because the bottle’s plastic it’s ideal for throwing in your makeup bag for on the go – no smashing and no spills either.

I really love the concept – they basically look like little pots of nail varnish, but are obviously not nail varnish… And are a lot more gentle on the skin than nail varnish would be.

They come with a little brush which you can either dab straight onto your skin, or you can apply a little onto your fingertips and dilute it a bit before you actually use it on your face.

The price of this little gem is a whopping £19.50! I got this mini size in a huge Benefit set back in the summer, but I’ll be honest with you – I would never have paid that amount for a liquid highlighter! It’s insane!

Now I’ll go onto the formula!

It has a very liquid-y consistency, but I do really love that about this product as liquid highlighters always look a lot more natural than powders.

As shown on the swatches above, Highbeam is quite pink-toned – if you have a darker complexion you might prefer Sunbeam which is more golden.

Once it’s on the skin you can just pat it in with your fingertips.

I suppose that you can put it anywhere really, but I generally just apply it to the highpoints of my cheekbones – and under the eyebrow, it looks gorgeous applied there!

As you can see from the swatch, once all blended it gives a beautiful sheen that really brightens the skin and wakes up your complexion. And once it’s in place, it ain’t budging! Although really easy to remove, it lasts all day and I love it for that reason.

Final Roundup

Price: £19.50
Packaging: 5/5 (cute on your dressing table and won’t smash because it’s plastic! Compact to travel with)
Consistency: Very natural, liquid highlighter
Shade: 3/5 (would only suit fairer skin tones. Sunbeam would suit those of you with a darker complexion)
Lasting power: 5/5 (doesn’t budge!)
How long does the product last?: 5/5 (you need the tiniest amount and you get a heck of a lot in the bottle. You’d be surprised how many uses you’ll get out of it!)
Overall quality: 4/5
Recommended?: Yes… If you’ve got the budget. If it’s out of your price range, the drugstore has some amazing alternatives!

Although a very pretty highlighter it’s unlikely I’ll repurchase Highbeam! It’s just a bit too pricey for me.

What drugstore alternatives would you recommend to Highbeam? Leave your suggestions in the comments!

    1. You’re right – you really don’t need very much at all! I suppose you would get your money’s worth out of the big bottle, but it’s just so pricey!
It does give that something extra on a night out 🙂 x

      1. It is pricey but honestly I’ve had mine for so long…probably too long. You just need a mini bottle really xx

  2. I hear ya! I recieved a sample in the advent calender and I became obsessed but can’t bring myself (yet) to pay that much for just one highlighter. Not kits and palettes are a different story…..hehehe. Thanks for the great review 🙂

    1. I feel exactly the same way! I’m literally trying to ration how many times I use it because I just dread it running out. I honestly can’t see myself repurchasing it (unless, like you said, I find it in a kit or something!) .
      And thank you! x

    1. It is a lovely colour and gives a really pretty effect on the skin!
It is extremely expensive though… To be honest I doubt I’ll repurchase when I run out!
      And thank you! x

      1. I know, repurchasing will be painful for me!
I have had this mini for a while now and barely made a dent in it – a little does go a long way! I’ll let you know how long I take to finish it up! xx

    1. It is quite pricey for what it is!
      I just can’t find a cheaper dupe though! 😦
I think that in Boots you might be able to buy a little £10 kit with a mini in, but I’m not too sure!
      And thank you! xx
