Review and Lipswatch: YSL Volupte Sheer Candy in #8 Iced Plum

A happy Saturday to you all! I hope you’re enjoying your weekend and that the weather’s as beautiful as it is here. It’s rare the skies are so blue in the UK and I’ve been chilling in the garden, making the most of it!

Today I’m going to be reviewing my brand new YSL Volupte Sheer Candy in #8 Iced Plum which I mentioned in my recent beauty haul! You guys seemed to love the colour and I got a couple of review requests, so here goes.

Okay then! Let’s kick things off with the packaging and the price, shall we?

YSL is pretty well known for the stunning packaging – and I have to agree, it kind of is to die for! Everything from the silver tube, to the golden detailing, to the weight of it just make it feel so luxurious!

All of the range come in this stunning packaging, with a band in the centre showing the lipstick’s shade – SUPER handy if you have more than one; you know exactly what you’re picking up before you even open it.

But you aren’t getting that designer packaging for nothing – just one of these lipsticks retails for a whopping £25-£26! It honestly depends on the colour you’re after – the cheaper ones are just as pretty as the pricier ones. Me, of course, having expensive taste, paid £26 for this little beauty. And although it kind of broke the bank, I can’t say I’m regretting it!

Now let’s discuss the shade and the formula!

So, as mentioned in my haul, the shade in the tube is very misleading – it did not appeal to me one bit in the tube, but swatched my thoughts were very, very different (I ended up purchasing it, after all!).

On the lips it is a beautiful sheer berry-pink:

I love love love the shade of this, and I think it’d suit a pretty wide range of skin tones too. It also does not have the tendency to make your teeth look yellow, which I am so grateful for!

The formula is also beautiful and much to my taste – sheer, glossy, and very nourishing too. It’s perfect for days when my lips are a little dry, as it glides over dry patches without clinging to them.

I also love the longevity of the product – although it doesn’t last quite as long as some of my other lipsticks, for a glossy product the colour lasts a good 1-2 hours and once the initial gloss has worn off you’re left with a stain on the lips.
If you do eat or drink within that time though, it’ll definitely wear off and you’ll need to touch up. I think that’s pretty standard for most lipsticks though, don’t you?

Final Roundup
Price: £25-£26 (depends on the shade)
Packaging: 5/5 (so luxurious and beautiful. Feels weighty and wins a spot on my dressing table, definitely!)
Formula: Sheer, nourishing
Longevity: 1-2 hours
Finish: Glossy
Colour selection: 5/5 (you’ll definitely find one for you!)
Overall quality: 5/5
Recommended: Definitely! Hefty price tag aside, these lipsticks are just beautiful – from the packaging to the shades to the formula, if you haven’t tried these already you’re missing out!

What’s your favourite luxury lipstick?

    1. Bringing back good memories then? Which shade’s your favourite?
Those Chanel ones are quite similar in formula, aren’t they? I was swatching in store and they caught my eye too! I love sheer lipsticks! xxx

      1. The Chanel ones seem a bit more opaque and definitely more long lasting!
My fave YSL is something Cherry, like Luscious Cherry I believe it was called! I’d definitely buy that one again!
        Lots of xx

    1. You’re right, I was wincing as I paid! The packaging is gorgeous though, and you’re right – such a good idea to have the shade on the tube! So handy – and a nice splash of colour in the packaging too! xxx

      1. I think it’s good to splash out sometimes on things that make you happy – it makes work more bareable! It looks like it’ll be such a nice shade for the coming months too x

      2. Definitely! Plus I do think that everyone should have that one special lipstick that they always reach for – and because this is sheer I’ve already had so much use out of it. I don’t feel as bad if I use it lots!
And yes, it’s the perfect spring/summer shade 🙂 xxx

  1. Lovely, it looks like such a beautiful colour. I really like YSL rouge pur couture but I haven’t tried this lovely looking formula. My favourite would have to be Chatlotte Tilbiry K.I.S.S.I.N.G lipstick or her Matte Revolution lipstick. I hope you’re having a lovely weekend xx

    1. It really is such a pretty colour! I’ve tried the Rouge Volupte line but not the Pur Coutour; what’s the formula like?
And again, not tried the Charlotte Tilbury lipsticks at all! In fact, I’m yet to purchase anything from the brand (so bad, I know)! I’ve heard amazing things though!
Would you recommend one particular colour? I’d love to try them out xx

      1. The YSL is on my blog if you want to see it in action http://zoebeautyblog.com/2014/12/10/the-new-nude-nude-lipsticks/ it’s a lovely formula. For the Charlotte Tilbury ones, I love the shade ‘B*itch Perfect’ as a nude but there are so many beautiful colours in the range and a nude for every skin tone…I have a few swatched on my blog http://zoebeautyblog.com/2015/04/05/the-charlotte-tilbury-experience/ they’re definitely worth trying if you’re in London xx

  2. This looks like a great lipstick! The design of it really is beautiful!😻 my favourite lipsticks would have to be Mac lipsticks! I know everyone has them but there is such a huge selection of colours and they really do last all day ☺️

    1. It really is! I’m definitely not one to splurge on high end makeup frequently, so for me to say this is worth the cash means it definitely is! The packaging is just stunning too – a bonus I’m quite happy about.
And I’m a big MAC lippie fan myself! You’re right, there’s such a massive colour selection and there’s lots of formulas too, so there’s bound to be one you’ll like.
Have you got a favourite one? xx

      1. My favourite at the moment is mehr😻 when I bought it I thought it would be a dark pink/nude shade but it’s actually almost plum coloured, I love it☺️

      2. I haven’t heard of that one! Sounds beautiful. The perfect excuse to hit the shops again, I’ll definitely check it out next time I’m near a counter! xx
