The go-to products that take up my makeup bag

Hi again! How are you all doing? The week’s going pretty slowly for me so far but hopefully the sun’ll make an appearance to brighten everything up.

I went for a little weekend away up north a couple of weeks back, and obviously I took a bulging bag with me stuffed with my favourite makeup bits and bobs (my heart would be lost without it, you know how it is).

So, seeing as I was pretty chuffed with the products I took up north, I thought I’d share them with you…

bare minerals foundation

maybelline lash sensational

real techniques brushes

To begin with, let’s talk makeup (it always comes first).

BASE
♥️ Smashbox: Photo Finish Foundation Primer – without glue of some description my makeup just will not stay put. Seeing as this is more gentle than glue but does about the same job, I’m all for it.
♥️ Maybelline: Dream Fresh BB Cream – going for a lighter base at the minute, but I’m liking the fact that my skin actually looks like skin.
♥️ Rimmel: Wake Me Up Concealer – you guys know I can’t be without this!
♥️ MAC: Studio Sculpt Foundation – the Rimmel concealer’s brilliant for under the eyes but I’ve found this foundation to give me enough coverage to conceal blemishes.
♥️ Bare Minerals: Original Powder Foundation – it won’t smash because it’s already smashed – does that make sense?
♥️ The Body Shop: Shimmer Waves in 02 Blush – seeing as I’m not into that doll look I love subtle blushers, and this is one of those blush-highlight combos I can’t get enough of.

EYES
♥️ MAC: Paintpot in Bare Study – creased eyeshadow is never flattering, so this little pot of joy comes in so handy!
♥️ MAC: Frost Eyeshadow in Swish – a shop-my-stash hidden gem that I’ve completely fallen for!
♥️ Zoeva: Eyeshadow Palette in Mixed Metals – yep, you read that right – no Naked palette came with me! It was a risk bringing these bolder colours but the quality is gorgeous and the palette’s light and slim; perfect for travel.

LIPS
♥️ MAC: Frost Lipstick in Angel – my go-to lipstick for an instant pick me up.
♥️ Max Factor: Lipgloss in 80 Lustrous Sand – so obsessed with this! Lovely colour and perfect formula as it’s not too sticky.

BRUSHES
♥️ B Cosmetics: Powder Brush – for blusher and setting my under-eye area.
♥️ Real Techniques: Cheek Brush – to apply my BB cream and to blend concealer.
♥️ Real Techniques: Blush Brush – to set my face with powder.
♥️ Real Techniques: Base Shadow Brush – to pack down colour.
♥️ Real Techniques: Angled Shadow Brush – to blend through the crease.

And despite that the very long list is the whole reason that my bag was way heavier than it should have been, I was really happy with the products I took with me and found a use for each one without craving anything I’d left at home.

Name the one product that permanently lives in your handbag!

    1. I love the look of those – quite sheer and moisturising but still offer a tint of colour! Heard they’re amazing, which shade’s you’re favourite? xx

      1. I’m all about pink lips! My favourite. And I love sheer reds – they’re so much more wearable and a great way to ease yourself into bolder colours x

    1. Buying MAC lipsticks is a tricky one, I have to agree… There’s just too much choice! But I’d highly recommend Angel; it’s a lovely colour that goes with just about everything. Don’t be put off by the fact it’s a frost either – very minimal shimmer! Let me know which one you go for in the end lovely!
And I never feel properly ready for the day without a coat or two of mascara! Really opens up the eyes and makes a whole lot of difference! xx

    1. That’s a difficult one, as I guess I’d say I’m on the fence with this! Although it doesn’t give me quite as much length as I like and the brush is huge and tricky to use, it does leave my lashes feeling feathery and light without being clumpy! Although I’ll say it’s not my favourite I’m not the biggest fan of mascaras from Rimmel anyway…?

I’m a right fusser when it comes to mascara though, so do take my criticism with a pinch of salt! What do you look for in a good mascara? I’d be able to tell if it’s for you or not then! xx

      1. I’m picky too :’) haha! Thank you for this!! I like something that is lengthening and keeps a curl. And I always struggle with panda eyes, so I tend to be a waterproof type of girl 🙂 but always looking for something new!! Xxx

      2. We’re quite similar then! I look for all of those things! I’d probably say it’s not ideal for you as even though it holds a curl excellently it’s not very lengthening and I do sometimes get black under my eyes… They’ll probably come out with a waterproof version at some point, though! Maybe it’d be better to wait and try it in waterproof? xxx

  1. Lash sensational is my go to mascara! I love how it fans my lashes and holds the curl.. Even without it being waterproof! Glad you love it as well 🙂

    1. It’s a favourite of so many people! I do like it, I just wish it didn’t clump up my lashes. Maybe I should leave it to dry out a bit? Did you suffer with this when you first tried it? xx

      1. Oh no! 😦 and yes! I think letting each coat dry before next application will do the trick 🙂 I always make sure to wipe my wand off of excess product before application as well bc I have noticed that this mascara is prone to clumping :/ I hope it works out!

      2. Yes it’s a clumpy one for sure! I’ll give those tips a go then – thank you! Determined to make this mascara work even if it kills me doing so! xx

    1. It’s beautiful! It’s definitely more pink than coral – quite a pale pink. Although it’s a frost it doesn’t come out very shimmery at all on the lips. I love it! xx

      1. I’m sure you’d be able to work with this pink! It’s a very subtle pink with a hint of nude too, so it’s not too bold or overpowering. I think you’d look lovely in it! xx
