August Beauty Favourites

As we’ve found ourselves on the very last day of August, and for us in the UK that also means the last official day of our our summer, I thought I’d round up my top picks from the month (and season) to share with you all!

I feel like I’ve picked a good ol’ bunch this month featuring brushes and skincare as well as actual makeup. Even though El-Esque is of course a mainly makeup blog, skincare and the tools that you use on your face play a huge part in how your makeup will look at the end of the application process, so I thought I’d share my favourites in these categories too.

max factor creme puff pressed powder

I’ll start off with makeup though, seeing as I do have a couple of bits to share! First up is a powder that I’ve been using (and LOVING) ever since I got back from my jolly hols – it’s from Max Factor and it’s called the Crème Puff Pressed Powder. I have the shade Translucent 05 which matched my tan perfectly at the time, although I can still get away with it despite my tan being pretty much gone now.

This powder is just perfect for anyone with dry skin, as it’s so finely milled and light! Although it matifies my skin it doesn’t leave a powdery layer on the surface or sink into fine lines. It also keeps my foundation and concealer in place all day long and never breaks up products that I put underneath or on top of it!

A super affordable one, but possibly my top find from the last few months.

mac extra dimension eyeshadow

The other makeup item that I’ve well and truly fallen head-over-heels for is this GORGEOUS Extra Dimension Eyeshadow from MAC called Smokey Mave, featured in my high-end beauty haul. Ever since I purchased this eyeshadow I have been using it every single day, because it’s just stunning.

It’s the only shade out of this particular formula that I really liked the look of – it’s a lilac-taupe with a silver shimmer running through it. It’s so shimmery that it almost gives a wet-look to the eyelid which is so pretty. It actually reminds me of Misty Rock from By Terry which also gives this effect… As well as having a bigger impact on your purse! Although this eyeshadow is MAC, it actually works out a lot cheaper than the By Terry option.

I’ll be giving this eyeshadow a full review soon, so keep your eyes peeled!

garnier micellar water

My favourite skincare product recently has been the Micellar Water from Garnier – I’m sure you’ve already heard just about every other beauty blogger rave on and on about this cleanser, but honestly, there’s a reason for it.

I only picked this up because it was on offer and Boots had run out of the Simple cleaner that I usually go for. I wasn’t that excited to try it, as cleansing waters never seem to remove any makeup very successfully! However, this one proved me wrong. I’ve been using it to take off my eye makeup every single day since I purchased it, as it removes every last smudge in one clean sweep and doesn’t leave my sensitive skin irritated!

real techniques bold metals powder brush

And my final top-pick comes from the Bold Metals line by Real Techniques. I wrote a post about this brush (and another one from the line) in this post whilst they were on offer. That offer is STILL ON so if you’ve been eyeing up these brushes for a while, get on the Boots website for 25% off!

The particular brush that I’ve been enjoying is the 100 Arched Powder which is just amazing for applying any powder or bronzer. As it’s a paddle brush, you’re not swirling it over the skin, meaning that you’re flattening down any flakes of skin (sounds gross, but if you have dry skin you’ll know what I mean!) and will also not aggravate acne as much as a buffing motion would. This allows the skin to look beautifully flawless – and at the same time the brush doesn’t apply too much product.

Also… The packaging. It’s just gorgeous!

So those are the products that I’ve been enjoying over the last month! I hope you enjoyed reading about them and that I maybe sparked some inspiration for your future shopping sprees…?

What have you been loving recently?

    1. I was like that too to be honest as other micellar waters and water-based makeup removers just haven’t fazed me in the past! This is the first one that has impressed me and I’ll definitely repurchase it!
I’d 100% recommend trying it! You can get it in little travel bottles too now, so if you were still not sure you could always test it that way! xxx
