Zoeva: 221 VS 227 | The Battle of the Blenders

You can never have too many makeup brushes!
And when it comes to eye brushes, it’s even more vital (IMO) to have several handy. I can’t count the times that I’ve loaded lots of different colours onto the lid & into the crease, and things just look choppy and, let’s be honest, slightly pantomime-esque.

If you don’t have a totally clean brush handy, good luck trying to sort that out!

For Christmas I was lucky enough to receive a few Zoeva brushes, including a couple of eye blenders, and I’ve been putting them to the test recently. Two very famous Zoeva brushes are the 221 & the 227 and I thought I’d compare them for you!

I’ll start off with the actual prices of the brushes – both of which are exactly the same at £6.95! My brushes were ordered from Beauty Bay, which is free shipping for those totalling over £10. It’s definitely well worth ordering a couple of brushes so that you get the free delivery as it’ll work out overall cost effective.

As for the appearance of the brushes, well, they both look very similar, with a silver ferrule, white bristles and a black handle.

The real difference in the two brushes is the shape of the bristles.

– The 221 Luxe Soft Crease’s bristles are longer, less splayed out and are in a domed shape. They are made from a natural-synthetic fibre mix, so the brush isn’t vegan.
– The 227 Soft Definer’s bristles are shorter and the shape is more flat than domed. They are made from natural goat hair, so again the brush is not vegan.

Here’s a snap of the bristles that shows their shape far more effectively than I can describe! 🙂 As you can see the 221 is more domed and the 227 is more flat.

Apparently the 227 is an almost identical dupe for the MAC 217 brush, and although I’ve never tried it from looking at photos I can definitely see the resemblance. They’re both flat with similar bristles and are likely to blend eyeshadow in almost exactly the same day.

I personally prefer the 221 out of the pair! Although the 217 is a nice shape for packing on the colour and lightly blending, the 221 just makes fully dispersing colour incredibly easy. Even if you struggle with using eyeshadow, I think this brush would make the whole process so easy for you!

Have you tried Zoeva makeup brushes? Do you like them?

  1. I just wanted to say that I love your blog. I just found you and I am so happy. There are alot of blogs around (mine included) and i find not alot of people want to actually write. You write alot of depth in your blog which is amazing. I also love how you dont post random stuff. The odd random post is cute but so many bloggers write a paragraph about the most random stuff.

    Love your blog
