Being an avid reader/viewer of many blogs and YouTube channels, I had to have encountered the Clarins Instant Light Lip Comfort Oil… Famous for having been limited edition and brought back after high demand! I’m not too sure whether it’s this, the cute packaging or the fact that I have constantly chapped lips that pushed me to splurge, but whatever the reason I did just that and have totally fallen in love with it!
Seeing as it is a rather pricey number I thought I’d give a full review today with lots of photos and whatnot so that you can decide for yourself if this is something you’d love just as much as I do.
So here it is! There are two shades in the line; 01 Honey and 02 Raspberry. I chose Raspberry simply because I felt that for the price I wanted a little bit of colour at least.
Speaking of price, considering that an average lip balm would be under £5, this one is definitely on a luxury level! £18 for a lip oil?! I must be crazy! Despite this, there’s 7ml in the bottle which is a fair bit more than general lip balms which are around 5ml.
I adore the packaging too! It’s kind of like a lip gloss halved in size with more moisturising properties! The little bottle is glass, but you don’t have to worry about it being fragile because the glass is thick and durable.
I also love the big, padded doe-foot applicator, simply because it feels as though it’s cushioning the lips when you pop it on.
Okay, so now onto the formula, which is an aspect that I was kind of iffy about at the start – I mean, it looks like gloppy honey, so won’t it be sticky?! I’ve always been one of those girls who has a freakish phobia of sticky lip products – your hair gets all stuck in them, your lips get fully glued together so when you go to talk to someone you get stringy sticky gloss everywhere… Is that just me?
Either way, I hate sticky lip products, and this one looked a killer to me. However, I was very surprised to find that it’s not sticky at all. It does have a slight tack to it, but that just helps with its excellent longevity (more on that in a minute). It is quite thick in consistency but I find that this almost adds another layer to your lips, making them look plumper in the process.
And in longevity terms, man this stuff stays put! Obviously the gloss wears down after a little bit, but I’ve popped this on before I go to bed and when I wake up the next day that familiar slightly tacky feeling that I’ve grown to love is still there.
Besides all of those things, it is also incredibly hydrating – which is key in any lip balm, right? My lips have been incredible dry recently thanks to the chilly weather here in the UK, and this has been a true saviour for me.
As I mentioned, the colour is Raspberry, but it doesn’t transfer a great deal of colour and comes out pretty much clear which I don’t mind at all. If I was after colour I would reach for a pigmented gloss or a lipstick anyway!
So, to round up. Do I think this is beautiful? Yes. Do I think it’s madly overpriced? Yes. Do I think it’s worth a luxury treat-yourself splurge? Hell yes! I’ve fallen totally in love with my little lip oil and will continue to enjoy it every time I use it!
