MAC Cosmetics | Loves & Loathes

I’ve been a huge fan of MAC as a brand since I started to collect makeup – I mean, it’s the perfect place to start! They have every single colour, from neons to neutrals, and stock just about everything any cosmetics lover would ever need.

Today I thought I’d show you my MAC collection and share my loves and loathes of the brand! Hopefully this will help any makeup newbies out there who need help with where to start, or self-proclaimed MAC enthusiasts after some inspiration.

In terms of base, I haven’t actually tried any foundations from MAC, but I am looking into trying the Face & Body as I love light coverage products like that as it is water-based. Seeing as I haven’t actually given that a go yet I’ll go ahead and discuss the Pro Longwear Concealer which I have in the shade NC15. I purchased this just after Christmas I believe and have totally fell in love with it! I have extremely dry skin so to find a full-coverage concealer that doesn’t cling is a rarity – and this is that hidden gem I’ve searched for.

I only have one blusher from MAC which is in the permanent collection, and that’s Dainty from the Mineralized line. Ah, I love this colour so much – I always find myself going back to this product when I’m totally undecided on what to wear on my cheeks that day, because it goes with just about everything and blends effortlessly.

Finally for base is my beloved Fix + Setting Spray! I’m running dangerously low on my miniature, and had to pop back to my local store and stock up with a new full-size because I’ve become addicted! It keeps my makeup dewy and radiant and allows it to wear off evenly without patching.

If you’re an eyeshadow fanatic with very picky preferences, MAC is definitely the place to go – they stock every colour under the sun in matte, shimmery & glittery finishes as well as offering them loose or pressed!

My all-time favourite eyeshadow is called Smokey Mauve and it’s from the Extra Dimension range. I love wearing purples across the lids, and this one almost looks wet because of its intense shimmer which is so beautiful! I also adore the Pressed Pigment in Black Grape for the same reasons; the purple tone compliments my dark eyes and hair, and the pressed consistency means that it’s 10x easier to use and the fallout is minimal.

I’m not a huge fan of the frost eyeshadows (I have one in Swish), simply because they lack in pigment and need a fair bit of layering to give a decent colour. I also really don’t like the pink colour of Swish, but that’s my own fault (oops)! Also, although I love the colour of the Blue Brown Loose Pigment the creasing is awful and for me it simply doesn’t wear well enough for the price in my opinion! I’m not crazy for Bare Study Paintpot either, but I can make it work my layering other shadows on top and I do get a fair amount of wear out of it.

Finally, lips. I feel as though most beauty bloggers have had a bit of a MAC moment when it comes to lip products, and I am no different.

I adore my Soar Lip Pencil, because not only does it last brilliantly it also pairs with so many of my other lipsticks! Speaking of lipsticks I have four, which is a relatively small stash but I’m cool with that. I own Angel, Syrup, Plumful and Rebel, all of which I love and wear on a regular basis.

Something I don’t like form MAC in the lip department is their glosses… Although I love the colour and look of my Dazzle Glass in Like Venus, the texture is SO STICKY and yep, you guessed it, you end up with those gross strands of gloss in between your lips when you smile. NOT my cup of tea.

What do you love and loathe from MAC? Do you have any more recommendations for me?

    1. I know right! It’s a shame because the colours are beautiful, but they’re just so difficult to use and don’t last well IMO xx
