As I mentioned in my May Favourites post last week, I was recently diagnosed with rosacea which definitely isn’t music to my ears, let’s just say! I’ve struggled with extremely angry, red skin on my cheeks that was always painfully dry for so many years and it wasn’t until recently that I finally decided to visit my GP to see if there was anything they could do for me.
All is not lost… I was given a topical cream that is definitely reducing the redness and I was also prescribed the Aveeno Colloidal Oatmeal Moisturising Cream to help to finally hydrate my skin – and seeing as this is just the best product I have ever, EVER encountered for dry complexions, I thought it might help some of you if I shared my experience with you!
So, as I said, I was prescribed this by my GP but you can actually purchase it in Boots which I will continue to do from now onwards. I’d never really looked into Aveeno as a brand before – I mean, the packaging isn’t all that glamourous and I never really hear any bloggers talking about it at all. It wasn’t until I completed a spot of beauty homework and discovered that it’s rated 4 1/2 stars on the Boots website that I knew it was going to be good!
This cream is honestly something of a saviour for me. My skin was rough, dull and felt tight and irritated all the time. I apply this cream twice a day and it sinks in after only around 10 minutes or so. My skin feels plump, hydrated and even has a slight glow to it (something totally new to me!).
The only downside to this product is that it doesn’t exactly enjoy having makeup layered on top of it. I tend to apply it as soon as I’ve washed my face and leave it for at least 20 minutes (longer if possible) before I even think about using any makeup. To be honest, because it moisturises for 24 hours, sometimes I won’t actually apply any more of it in the morning if it’s a day when I’m planning to wear a lot of product on my skin and just use it a couple of times in the evening to make sure my skin stays soft.
Overall, I can’t really complain about this product. I’m sure it would be brilliant for those of you who have eczema because it is so directly targeted at sensitive skin. I would also use it all over the body, especially on particularly dry patches such as the elbows or knees.
Although I had mine prescribed you can purchase it from Boots for just £7.29 (it’s actually on offer right now for just £4.86!).
What skin type do you have?
