Sunny Spring/Summer Essentials

It’s got to that time of the year again where we are finally having some sunny weather and summer’s in sight (although don’t be fooled, I had to dash inside to escape the rain after taking these photos…)! In light of the new-found beautiful weather, I was inspired to share with you all my beauty essentials for spring/summer – something I tend to do every year, because there’s nothing I love more than switching up my makeup bag when winter is officially done and dusted.

I’ve been loving MAC’s Hush Highlighter (I reviewed it in my last post!) and I think it’s the perfect summer cheek product. It’s a cream highlighter with a champagne-peach hue to it, and on my pale skin it works perfectly to add a bit of a healthy glow to the apples of my cheeks when I apply it in the area I’d generally apply blusher. I think it’d work brilliantly on any skin tone – on pale skin like my own, medium skin tones and even if you’ve got really dark skin I think it would add a beautiful peachy sheen to your cheeks.

Although Anastasia’s Modern Renaissance Palette has been classed as an ‘autumn-winter’ palette ever since it was released – I mean, the plumy shades are quite festive! – I think the rosy tones in here are ideal for the summer months. You could just take Love Letter and buff it all over the lid, into the crease and into the lower lashline for a warm pinky look, or you could easily create a golden smoky eye with the warm browns in here that’d look gorgeous with a tan! The shadows in here are of such beautiful quality too.

In complete contrast to those more neutral tones, I wore the Vivid Brights Eyeliner in Vivid Sapphire from NYX on holiday last year and I think it’s brilliant for use in the sunshine. It’s a bright, electric blue, and I actually found it relatively easy to use to create a winged eye look. When on holiday I just wore this, mascara and a dab of concealer and I was good to go; it’s perfect for pulling your makeup look together when you don’t want to put much effort in!

As for lip products, the list would be endless! I feel like anything is acceptable when the sun’s out and you really don’t have to spend much money to get a fantastic colour and formula.

I do really love Panorama Pink from Smashbox, however! It is a little more pricey but a gorgeous formula and that ideal combination of baby pink and a brighter, neon pink. It has a satin finish but I do sometimes put lip gloss on top to add a bit of shine. This colour is AMAZING with a tan and I can’t wait to wear it as the summery months go on!
MAC’s Go for Girlie Patent Polish is a similar product; bold, opaque, bright colour, but this product’s super glossy and moisturising already so is ideal for when your lips are a little dry and you want colour too.

The Revlon Lip Butters are really similar to the Patent Polishes from MAC so if you’re on a tighter budget these are a great bet! I have a few shades, but my favourite at the moment is Juicy Papaya, which is a warm orangey peach shade. These lip products are really moisturising and glossy just like the MAC ones, but a fraction of the price.
I am an advocate of lip gloss as I’m sure you all know by now, but this Bourjois Sweet Kisses gloss in 02 has stolen my heart lately! I’m not a massive fan of the applicator but the product itself is a gorgeous colour and isn’t sticky in the slightest.

What are your spring/summer essentials? I’d love to know!

  1. I love the Modern Renaissance palette and think it could be perfect for any season! Would you mind checking out my blog? I did a post on reviewing makeup products under $6 a little while back.

  2. That cobalt blue eyeliner is gorgeous! Bright eyeliner is my favorite trick when I want to look put together but don’t have time to do full makeup. One of my recent favorite additions is Urban Decay Vice Lipstick in Sheer Liar. It’s a beautiful pinky-nude color – perfect for a lipstick-phobic girl like me!

    1. Sorry for the late reply hun! Isn’t it a pretty shade? I need to gather a bit of confidence and just wear it more!! 🙂 I’ve never tried UD lipsticks but the reviews are so positive; I might have to give that shade a try – it sounds beautiful! xx

    1. Aw thank you! 🙂 It’s a beautiful palette but quite different – I suppose it depends which shadow colours you personally like. I love neutral colours and that’s the main reason I adore this palette, because besides the two berry colours the others are all neutral and I get so much wear out of them! They’re amazing quality, really pigmented, and you do have that extra option of the brighter colours should you want to experiment – I’m still practicing with them but I do love wearing a sheer layer all over the eyes, it’s such a pretty look! Not as intimidating as you’d think xx
